History/Background: link

Personality: Marie Parfacy is the ‘original’ personality, the one that the girl was born with. But while Marie might be the first, her personality is no stronger than that of Soma Peries, which was later implanted over the original. After her memory was restored and Marie’s personality came to the surface, Marie and Soma became much like Allelujah and Hallelujah. They became interchangeable equals. There are times when they may fight for control and others where they may simply allow the other to take over, but they are now both completely aware of the other and the things that the other does when in control, whereas once Marie was the only one who was aware.

They may share a body but they are, in most ways, completely different. Marie is the girl who was aware throughout most of it, even if she was only in control for parts. But while she was born into a life that some would call cruel or unfortunate, Marie maintained a warm personality and a bright outlook. Rather than turn to anger or sadness over her life’s shortcomings, she managed to find the positive, and instead praised God for letting her live each day. But her life was also a lonely, secluded one. She had no real family, and only one brief friendship.

Socially, she is a bit stunted by the fact that what she knows about living a normal human life, she learned through second-hand sources. Other people are to be trusted, she likes to think. And that might make her naive at times, but she’s aware of that. She would rather trust and risk that, then to distrust people. Marie also tends to favor pacifism when it’s an option. However, she’s also seen enough that she knows that it isn’t always an option. But for her, it’s about having a reason to fight; or being able to accept the reasons others have. It’s needless, mindless fighting she can’t bear to see. Whereas it’s difficult to make her angry, instead, it might result in making her feel sad.

Marie is empathetic to other people’s pains as well. She has a good heart; strongly wishing for the happiness of the people around her, regardless of whether she knows them well or not. If it’s up to her, she will do anything in her power to ease the pains of those around her. And while she knows her limits, it often won’t stop her from trying her hardest. Marie has great determination and when really pushed, a little stubborn streak as well. If it’s something important to her, she won’t back down easily.

Upon being reunited with her old friend Allelujah she acknowledges her feelings for him. For as long as they've known each other, she's adored and cared for him more than anyone. To put it simply, she’s in love with the guy and she knows it. Although being called out on their relationship first results in blushing and a gaping silence, inwardly she couldn't be happier. In truth, it’s hard not to see it. She’s at his side every moment she can, and insists he let her fight with her even when he’d rather keep her protected, out of harm’s way.

Marie also cares for Soma, whom she caused great trouble for when she resurfaced, while still feeling very strongly about her own wants. It’s difficult, wanting Soma to be able to have her own life and still fighting to live her own. It is a situation with no real solution, and as such it hurts that there’s nothing she can really do to fix their situation. She admires Soma's strength, and would like to be more like her in that regard; looking up to her accomplishments.

Soma on the other hand, was created to be tougher both mentally and physically. She can appear somewhat cruel or emotionless at times, although that’s not entirely true. Soma is incredibly loyal and strong-willed. And whatever stubbornness Marie has, Soma has it times twenty. She can be a bit difficult in that aspect, but she isn’t heartless. Rather, she thinks of what is for the best and tries her best to act on that without being ruled by her emotions. Of course, that does make her a rather dry and business-like person, but she was designed to put her mission first. Soma tends to try and hide her emotions or even subdue them herself in order to feel strong and in control. She hates being viewed as weak, and wants to make her fellow soldiers and superior officers proud by being useful to them.

She pushes herself hard, and is driven to obtain results. That said, she does have a soft side that develops. Deep down there is a part of her that desires things that she'd missed out on in her life, such as family. When the Lieutenant Colonel asked if he could adopt her as his daughter, it made her happier than anything and it became the thing that she wanted most. While she wouldn't show that softness to most people, she does connect over time with those she comes to trust. Losing Lieutenant Colonel Sergei was the hardest thing for her, and it showed the part of her that does truly become attached to people, and feels for them.

It was also difficult for her to accept Marie at first. She hated that Allelujah would call her Marie, and resented being compared to her. However, Soma was able to come to terms with those feelings a little, the more time she spent with both of them. And now she accepts her as an equal, although in some ways she still envies her. She does feel that Marie has something that she does not because she was born believing that her existence was allowed only for the completion of her missions. Part of her wants to accept that she should disappear; that there’s nothing more for her to do here-- and that it would be best for Marie. However, another part of her still wants to have a place in the world even if it is something of a crazy dream.
